Prolapse management and pessary fitting

As Women's Health Physiotherapists, we are well aware of the prevalence of pelvic organ prolapse.

Often the word prolapse can be intimidating and scary. We want you to leave your appointment feeling as though there are options and support available. There are many options and we will create a plan with you and for you!

It can occur most commonly after childbirth but is not exclusive to those who haven't had children.

What we treat:

We treat all types of pelvic organ prolapses such as:

  • Cystocele (bladder prolapse)
  • Apical prolapse (uterine prolapse)
  • Vault prolapse (Top of the vagina)
  • Rectocele (bowel prolapse)

PESSARY FITTING

Our pelvic floor physiotherapists fit medical grade vaginal pessaries to support your prolapse.

The type of pessary we fit will depend on the prolapse you have and our findings on assessment.

These are  a great conservative option to relieve symptoms such as bulging and/or heaviness.

We work with gynaecologist and specialists.

Pelvic pain, endometriosis and sexual pain

Addressing Sexual Pain and Dysfunction

Our pelvic floor physiotherapists understand that pelvic and sexual pain can be a sensitive  to discuss.

Our approach is centred around providing an environment in which you feel comfortable and supported to open up and discuss your concerns and challenges.

Working with great gynaecologists, dietitian's, naturopaths  and psychologists  our aim is multidisciplinary to help you get the best results we can.

What treatment might look like:

  • Pelvic floor relaxation through individualised exercises
  • Muscle release (internal and external)
  • Vaginal wands
  • Graded exposure and use of dilators
  • Education about your presentation and referrals if needed
